Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday (December 29) revealed that batsman Rohit Sharma will join the rest of the national squad on Wednesday (December 30) in Sydney.
The opening batsman was serving mandatory 14-day quarantine in Sydney and he will now finally enter the Team India's bio-bubble on Wednesday before the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Rohit will fly from Sydney on Wednesday (December 30) and join the rest of the Indian squad in Melbourne. After the Boxing Day Test, Cricket Australia has confirmed that SCG will remain the venue for the third Test, and later Shastri has also confirmed that Rohit will join the squad on Wednesday.
The coach also said that they will first look at how the opener is physically after being in quarantine for the last couple of weeks before taking a call on his inclusion in the XI for the third Test against Australia.
Shastri said in the post-match press conference at MCG: “Rohit Sharma will join the team tomorrow. We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been in quarantine for the last couple of weeks. We'll also see how he feels before we take the call.”
Stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane also made his excitement known after the win at MCG. "We're excited about Rohit coming back. Spoke to him yesterday, he's waiting to join the team," Rahane said.
Noteworthy, India has made an incredible comeback in Australia and on Tuesday leveled the four-Test series 1-1 by winning the second Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
