AUS v IND 2020-21: ‘Great display from the bowlers’, Virat Kohli reacts after India’s dominant show on Day 1

India finished the day with 36/1 on the board after bowling out Australia for 195 at MCG.

Team India dominated the hosts on Day 1 at MCG | GettyThe opening day of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India saw some fascinating cricket, with the visitors dominating the contest at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Opting to bat first, Australia got bowled out for 195 in 72.3 overs with Jasprit Bumrah (4-56) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-35) doing the bulk of the damage.

Debutant Mohammed Siraj (2-40) claimed two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja (1-15) chipped in with a scalp as none of the Aussie batsmen managed to touch the 50-run mark. Marnus Labuschagne was the top-scorer for the hosts with 48.

In reply, India lost Mayank Agarwal in the very first over for a duck but debutant Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara ensured that the tourist end the day without any more hiccup.

While Gill remained unbeaten on 28, Pujara finished with 7 not out as India scored 36 for 1 at stumps on Day 1.

Elated by India’s dominant performance on the opening day, regular skipper Virat Kohli took to Twitter and wrote: “Top day 1 for us. Great display from the bowlers and a solid finish too.”

Notably, Kohli left the Australian shores after the Test series opener in Adelaide for the birth of his first child. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane is leading the tourists.
