AUS v IND 2020-21: ‘Rohit Sharma to join India camp as early as December 30’, says report

Rohit will continue to quarantine for another week.

Rohit Sharma | GettyIndia opener Rohit Sharma’s participation in the last two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy won’t be hampered by the rise in Coronavirus cases in Sydney over the last week.

Rohit, who completed rehabilitation at the NCA following his hamstring injury during the IPL 2020, was declared clinically fit by the BCCI on December 13. Having arrived in Australia on December 16, he has been quarantining in Sydney and will continue to do for another week.

With the Victorian state officials announcing that anyone arriving in Melbourne from a two-week isolation in Sydney does not have to do so again, Rohit should be free to join his teammates as early as December 30. Now the question remains whether that'll be in Sydney or Melbourne, depending on the eventual venue for the third Test.

According to a Cricbuzz report, BCCI had initially asked Cricket Australia to allow Rohit to land in Melbourne and complete his quarantine there. However, they were informed that Rohit would then have been made to confine in a hotel room chosen by the Victorian government, akin to other overseas travellers.

Talking about Rohit's current accommodation in Sydney, the right-hander has been confined to a 2-bedroom apartment where he can train indoors. In fact, Rohit has been busy doing some work indoors during his time in quarantine.

Coming to the venue for the third Test, CA has not yet taken away hosting rights from the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground. With the NSW health authorities confirming only 8 new cases following 44,000 tests on Tuesday (December 22), the SCG might retain hosting rights else Melbourne may have to stage back-to-back Tests.

Provided he is declared fit by the team's medical staff, Rohit Sharma will feature in the third and fourth Test.

The third Test is scheduled to be played from January 7 to 11 while Gabba will host the fourth Test from January 15 to 19.
