Australia’s highest wicket-taking fast bowler Glenn McGrath has suggested two potential changes in Team India’s playing XI for the upcoming Boxing Day Test at the MCG in Melbourne. India already lost the first Test in Adelaide after being humiliatingly bowled out for 36 runs, their lowest Test score ever.

Australia chased down the 90-run target in 21 overs on day three to go 1-0 up in the four-match Test series.

“India had to start well. They needed to get a win on the board, but unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. It was an unbelievable bowling performance by Australia,” said McGrath in the post-match show on Sony Sports Network.

McGrath further said that Virat Kohli’s absence for the remainder of Tests will leave a huge hole to fill for the visitors, but suggested bringing in KL Rahul to soften the blow.

“Virat Kohli is such an impact player. Without him, it leaves a big hole but at the same time, it leaves an opportunity for other players to put their hand up. Maybe KL Rahul can come in for Virat Kohli,” he said.

McGrath, who is considered to be one of the greatest fast bowlers of all-time, also suggested a new opening pair for India in MCG Test, saying that India should look to include Shubman Gill in the side.

“The other options India has is Shubman Gill, who actually came out looking positive in one-day series, he didn’t seem to be overawed by the stage, that to me would be one potential change at the top,” McGrath added.

When asked how he would deal with a horribly out-of-form Prithvi Shaw, McGrath said: “They need to know internally how he’s going. The captain, the coaches, the support staff will have to know that. The thing that I’m worried about is that he got out in the same way in two innings. That is a concern against bowlers like Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc. They gonna come at you always. The internal people will know it.”
