India captain Rohit Sharma reclaimed the record for most centuries in T20Is, after he slammed a match-winning 121* against Afghanistan in the third and final match of the series on January 17, 2024.

India was reduced to 22/4 after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat. But then the skipper played a captain’s knock, scoring 121* in 62 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes. He added 190* runs for the 5th wicket with Rinku Singh, who made 69* with 6 sixes and 2 fours to his name as India posted 212/4 in 20 overs.

Afghanistan then leveled the score with half-centuries from Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Gulbadin Naib. The two sides scored 16 runs each in the first Super Over. However, India clinched the match after scoring 11 in the second Super Over and bowling the visitors out for just 1 run.

After the match, Rohit said he’s been practicing the reverse sweep for the last two years. With this win, Rohit went level with MS Dhoni to become India’s most successful captain in T20I cricket.

I've been practicing that shot a lot. You have to play these shots if you want to put pressure on the bowler when the ball is spinning and you can't hit straight. That's when you have to try something different. I've been practicing the sweep and reverse-sweep for the last two years,” said Rohit to JioCinema.

I played the shot a couple of times in Test cricket. You should have options and it's up to you how to use those options. The ball was spinning and gripping, so I thought it would be better to play with the spin rather than hitting it straight,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma’s next assignment with the Indian team will be the five-Test series against England that starts on January 25.
