Rohit Sharma scored the first hundred for Team India this year on Saturday (February 13).
India opener Rohit Sharma scored his 7th Test hundred in the ongong second match against England on Saturday (February 13). He is the first Indian cricketer to score a hundred in the year 2021.
Rohit, who's playing his 36th Test match, reached the hundred in 130 deliveries. He had started the innings with a good pace and completed his half-centuries in just 47 balls. The senior batsman looked fluent throughout his innings, except for the moment he neared the 100-run milestone.
The 33-year-old reached 97 runs in 116 deliveries but took 14 more balls to score the remaining three runs. It was a tense period for his wife Ritika Sajdeh, who was present in the stadium to witness the innings, and fans in the stands.
Rohit had a few play and misses in those 14 deliveries. At one time, he nearly gave an easy catch to the fielder at short mid-wicket while trying to lap sweep Moeen Ali from outside off. The ball came a little slow on the bat and popped in the air for a while, nearly scaring everyone.
BCCI shared a compilation of the tense moments before Rohit could get his 100.
"ICYMI - When Rohit got hearts racing in his 90s. Some nerves and tense moments on field & in the crowd as @ImRo45 looked eager to get to his 100. The batsman got there eventually not before providing some heart-racing moments.", the Indian board wrote on Twitter.
