Shubman Gill celebrates his maiden ODI century | GettyThe Indian team took the field in the third ODI against Zimbabwe at Harare on August 22, 2022, with a single aim of winning the final match and pocketing the series 3-0, having won both the first two ODIs relatively easily.

India captain KL Rahul completed a hat-trick of toss wins and this time decided to bat first. India made a couple of changes with Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan coming in for Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

Shikhar Dhawan (40) and KL Rahul (30) added 63 runs for the first wicket on a pitch where batting was difficult as the ball didn’t come onto the bat. Brad Evans got both the openers out. But then Shubman Gill led the charge and first added 140 runs with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket. Kishan made 50 in 61 balls with 6 fours before getting run out.

The right-hander from Punjab went on to complete his maiden ODI ton in 82 balls and changed gears to help India inch closer to 300 runs. In the end, he fell for 130 runs in 97 balls with 15 fours and 1 six to his name, giving Evans his 4th wicket.

India finished with a final total of 289/8. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evan finished with his maiden fifer in ODIs- 5/54.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the youngster Gill as he showed his class and temperament on a difficult pitch to bat on.
