WPL 2023: WATCH – Captains unveil trophy during opening ceremony; Kiara, AP Dhillon dazzle crowd with performance

The league kicked off on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

Five captains unveiled the trophy | BCCIThe trophy for the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) season was unveiled in a grand opening ceremony at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (March 4).

The trophy was unveiled in presence of captains of all five teams – Smriti Mandhana (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians), Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals), Beth Mooney (Gujarat Giants) and Alyssa Healy (UP Warriorz).

BCCI president Roger Binny, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal also marked their presence on the occasion.

Earlier, a dazzling opening ceremony kicked off the T20 tournament, with Bollywood actresses Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon producing stunning dance performances and AP Dhillon entertaining the crowd with his incredible singing.

In its first edition, the Women’s Premier League will stage a total of 20 league matches and 2 play-off games that will be played in a duration of 23 days.

The league will get underway on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium with a blockbuster clash between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.

On March 5, the WPL will have its first double-header day where Royal Challengers Bangalore will square off against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI. UP Warriorz will play their first game of the league against Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in the evening.

There will be 4 double headers with the first match starting at 3:30 PM IST. All evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST.

A total of 11 matches each will be held at the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The Final game of the league stage will be played between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals on March 21 at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI.

The Eliminator will be played at the DY Patil Stadium on March 24. The Final of Women’s Premier League 2023 will take place at the Brabourne Stadium on March 26.
