Rohit, Kohli lose one spot each in ICC ODI batting rankings, Kuldeep and Kishan rewarded for West Indies heroics

India won the three-ODI series 2-1 against West Indies.

Ishan Kishan and Kuldeep Yadav gained places in the rankings | GettyThe ICC ODI batting rankings of India skipper Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli have taken a hit following the three-match ODI series against West Indies.

Both the batters lost one spot with Rohit slipping out of the top 10 in the updated rankings, released by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday (August 2).

On the other hand, Kohli dropped from No. 8 to No. 9. Quinton de Kock and Steve Smith gained a place each despite not playing ODI cricket of late.

Notably, Rohit and Kohli didn’t feature in the last two ODIs against West Indies as the Indian team management decided to rest the two stalwarts. In the series opener, Rohit batted at No. 7 and scored 12 not out while Kohli didn’t come out to bat as India tweaked their batting order in the paltry chase of 115.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan and Kuldeep Yadav were rewarded for their impressive display in the ODI series against West Indies.

Kuldeep gained eight places to 14th on the list for ODI bowlers after picking up seven wickets in three games.

Kishan leapfrogged 15 spots to equal 45th for ODI batters. The southpaw slammed half-centuries in all three ODIs while opening the innings.

In the series opener, Kishan played a knock of 52 in 46 balls to script the visitors’ five-wicket victory while he scored run-a-ball 55 in India’s six-wicket defeat in the second ODI.

Kishan saved his best for the series-decider in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 1). The left-hander slammed 77 off 64 balls and added 143 runs for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill to lay the foundation for a mammoth 351/5 on the board.

After India won the third ODI by 200 runs, Ishan Kishan deservingly earned the Player-of-the-Series award.
