WI v IND 2023: WATCH – Ishan Kishan’s failed attempt to pull off Alex Carey-like stumping against Jason Holder in Dominica Test

Kishan attempted to stump out Jason Holder twice during the second innings of West Indies.

Ishan Kishan tries to emulate Alex Carey-like stumping | TwitterEarlier this month, Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s sparked the Spirit of Cricket versus Laws of the Game debate.

Bairstow was given out as Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the ball at the stumps when the English batter walked out of his crease after ducking a bouncer from Cameron Green.

While the dismissal divided opinions within the cricket fraternity, Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan tried to emulate Carey-like stumping but he failed to pull off on Day 3 of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

Kishan attempted to stump out and off-guard Jason Holder twice during the second innings of West Indies. The first incident took place in the 31st over when Holder was facing Ravindra Jadeja.

As soon as the Caribbean all-rounder stepped out of his crease, Kishan quickly removed the bails and the stumping appeal was sent upstairs but the third umpire ruled it in the batter’s favour as Holder didn’t lift his feet from the ground.

At the end of the 33rd over bowled by Jadeja, a similar incident occurred as Kishan waited for a while behind the stumps to whip the bails. Even though Holder's foot was in the air on this occasion, the umpires ruled the decision in favour of the former West Indies captain since the over had been called by the time Indian wicketkeeper attempted his stumping.

Coming to the Dominica Test, India thrashed the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs to take an unbeatable 1-0 lead in the series.

In reply to West Indies’ total of 150, the visitors piled up 421/5 (declared) in their first innings on the back of hundreds from debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal (171) and skipper Rohit Sharma (103) and a half-century from Virat Kohli (76).

In the second innings, the hosts once again faltered with the bat, getting bowled out for a paltry 130 to lose the match inside three days.

Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin starred with the ball for India, returning with 12 scalps in the match, including a seven-wicket haul in West Indies’ second essay.
