Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the two debutants that India fielded in the first of the two Tests against the West Indies which got underway at Dominica on July 12, 2023 onwards.
While Jaiswal showcased his talent with the bat by scoring 40* as India closed day one on 80/0 in response to West Indies’ 150 in first innings, Ishan Kishan made his presence known in a unique and hilarious way.
Kishan, keeping the wickets in place of KS Bharat, was heard on stump mic sledging the West Indies batters and making quirky comments. He even instructed Virat Kohli to correct his position in slips, as the video of his stump mic antics went viral on social media.
Kishan took two catches behind the stumps including one of Jadeja which was a difficult one, but it was his constant chatter behind the stumps that was noticed. He kept motivating the bowlers, shouting instructions, and occasionally attempting at disrupting the batter's concentration.
At one point, he could be heard asking Virat Kohli (standing at slip) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (silly point) to move a little straighter. In another, he was visibly surprised with Ashwin's sharp turn away from the batter.
