WI v IND 2023: India squad for West Indies Tests announced; Pujara dropped, Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar new faces

India will play two Tests in Dominica and Trinidad respectively.

India is slated to also play three ODIs and five T20Is on the two-month sojourn of the Caribbean.

The first Test will be played in Dominica from July 12 onwards and the second Test will begin on July 20th in Trinidad.

The three ODIs will be played on July 27, July 29 in Barbados, and August 1 in Tarouba, Trinidad. The first T20I will also be played in Tarouba on August 3, with the second and third matches to be played in Providence, Guyana on August 6 and 8 respectively.

The last two T20Is will be played in Fort Lauderhill, USA on August 12 and 13.

The Indian Test squad for the two-match series sees Rohit Sharma captaining the side and Ajinkya Rahane, who made his return to the Indian side in the WTC 2023 final after 18 months, being named as the vice-captain.

Usual names like Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Jaydev Unadkat from the WTC 2023 squad have been included as well.

Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat are named as designated wicketkeepers in the squad.

Unfortunately, Cheteshwar Pujara’s name was missing from the list, while Mohammad Shami has been rested with Navdeep Saini being called up in his stead.

While in new faces, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also been named in the squad. Mukesh Kumar has also been named in the Test squad.

These two Tests will begin the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC 2023-25) for both India and West Indies.
