India opener Shubman Gill has impressed with his batting in the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies as he scored a half-century in the first match which India won by 3 runs and then scored a sublime 43 in the second match on Sunday, July 24, which India also won.

The Men in Blue side was set a stiff target of 312 runs to win and take a 2-0 lead in the series. The pitch was showing its dual-paced colors and Shikhar Dhawan, the captain got out for 13 runs in 31 balls after struggling to get going.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, was looking very good, hitting 5 fours in his 49-ball stay and had played some very handsome-looking shots. However, his penchant for playing cheeky shots caused his downfall for 43 runs.

It happened in the 16th over of the chase. Gill looked to play a cheeky shot against a length delivery from Kyle Mayers that arrived a tad late. Gill was determined to play a dilscoop over the keeper’s head, but the ball was so slow, that it hit the bottom end of the bat and flew right back to the bowler for the easiest of catches.

Gill walked back to the pavilion smiling sheepishly, after scoring 43 off 49, laced with five boundaries.

However, half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and a fighting 64* from Akshar Patel took India home in the last over with 2 wickets in hand.
