India won the second ODI against West Indies on July 24, 2022 in Trinidad in an amazing fashion. If the first match was won due to Indian bowlers’ brilliance, the second win came thanks to an amazing rearguard contribution from the lower order.
Thanks to a brilliant 115 from Shai Hope in his 100th ODI match and 74 from captain Nicholas Pooran, the home side made 311/6 in 50 overs. It was a stiff target to chase for the Indian team given the slowness of the wicket and the West Indies bowlers exploited it to good measure.
Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) brought India back into the game and kept them alive in the chase after Shubman Gill (43) had given a good start. Deepak Hooda with 33 kept the chase going but it all came down to Akshar Patel and he shepherded the tail well.

He made 64* in 35 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes and as soon as he hit the winning runs, the Indian dressing room erupted in elation with everyone hugging one another.
BCCI shared a video of the same on their Twitter account in which Akshar and Mohammed Siraj are seen swarmed in the dressing room with Shreyas Iyer and coach Rahul Dravid approaching Akshar Patel with amazing smiles and just reacting to what happened in the middle as India won the match by 2 wickets and took a lead of 2-0 with one match to go.
