A stand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium was named in Rohit Sharma's honour on Saturday (May 16). The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) unveiled the “Rohit Sharma Stand” at the Divecha Pavilion Level 3, marking a proud moment for the Indian captain, who was present alongside his family.

After the ceremony, a light-hearted moment went viral on social media, in which Rohit was seen pulling up his younger brother Vishal, seemingly over a dent in their car.

“Yeh kya hai?” Rohit asked in his unique style, pointing at the damage.

Vishal, taken aback by the query, replied, “Reverse.”

To which, Rohit responded: “Kiska? Tere se?” The exchange left the fans in splits, with many calling it “peak big brother energy.”

Speaking at the stand unveiling ceremony, Rohit Sharma expressed deep gratitude to everyone involved in the event and reflected on the stadium’s personal and professional significance in his life.

"Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has come here to make this event so special. What is going to happen today, I never dreamt of it," Rohit said.

"As a kid growing up wanting to play for Mumbai and India, no one thinks about things like these. Like any other sportsperson, I only aimed to give my best and serve the nation. While doing that, you achieve many milestones, but something like this is truly special."

Rohit’s parents — Gurunath and Poornima Sharma — his wife Ritika Sajdeh, and brother Vishal were in attendance at the iconic Wankhede to witness the unveiling ceremony.

“To have my name amongst legends of the game and renowned world leaders... I can’t put this feeling into words. I’m grateful to the MCA, the Apex Council, and everyone involved,” Rohit said.

“To receive this honour while I’m still playing makes it even more surreal. I’ve retired from two formats but continue to play ODIs. On the 21st, when I return here to play for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals, it’ll be a truly special moment.”

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025. Having hung his boots from T20Is last year, he will now focus solely on the ODI format.
