Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday (May 7) prompted a heartfelt reaction from his wife, Ritika Sajdeh.
Rohit, who recently turned 38, announced his retirement from red-ball cricket, days before the selection of India’s Test squad for the upcoming England tour.
Taking to Instagram, Rohit wrote: “Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”
Ritika reshared Rohit’s Instagram story from her handle and expressed her emotions with heartbreak emojis.
Having already retired from T20 Internationals after the World Cup last year, Rohit Sharma will now only be seen in the ODI format for India.
Rohit’s red-ball future came under severe scrutiny after he managed just 31 runs in five innings at an abysmal average of 6.20 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 -- the lowest by a touring captain on Australian soil. He also stepped aside from the fifth Test at SCG due to poor form.
Rohit ended his Test career with 4,301 runs coming from 67 matches at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. He led India in 24 Tests, winning 12 and losing nine games.
