Imam-ul-Haq, Pakistan batter, was taken to the hospital after getting hit in the face during Pakistan's third One-Day International against New Zealand on April 5.
Pakistan's hopes of redeeming themselves in the third and final ODI of the series were dashed when the visitors fell by 43 runs at Bay Oval. Pakistan failed to chase down 265 runs in a rain-shortened encounter at Mount Maunganui.
In the series' last encounter on Saturday, Pakistan was bowled out for 221 runs while pursuing 265. Babar Azam top-scored for the team with a quick 50 off 58. Apart from Babar, Mohammad Rizwan (37 off 32) and Tayyab Tahir (33 off 31) scored runs but were unable to lead the team to victory.
Earlier, the match was shortened to 42 overs each, and Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and chose to bowl first.
New Zealand posted 264/8 with captain Michael Bracewell making 59, Daryl Mitchell scoring 43 and opener Rhys Mariu making his maiden ODI fifty. For Pakistan, Akif Javed took 4/62.
Meanwhile, early in the chase, Imam Ul Haq scurried for a quick single but was hit by a ball and was then forced to leave the field. Imam tucked the ball for a single in Pakistan's third over, but a throw from the fielder towards the bowler's end struck him in the face.
The left hander appeared to be in pain and collapsed on the ground. He was later transported from the field in a buggy ambulance. Fans flocked to social media to share their concerns about the Pakistani batter.
