An amazing glitch happened during Pakistan's innings in the recent third and final ODI against New Zealand. This match was played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The hosts defeated the visitors by 43 runs and pocketed the series 3-0.
The match was shortened to 42 overs each, and Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and chose to bowl first.
New Zealand posted 264/8 with captain Michael Bracewell making 59, Daryl Mitchell scoring 43, and opener Rhys Mariu making his maiden ODI fifty. For Pakistan, Akif Javed took 4/62.
In response, Babar Azam made 50, Mohammad Rizwan made 37, and Abdullah Shafique and Tayyab Tahir each made 33 runs. Pakistan could only muster 221 runs in 40 overs. Ben Sears was the pick of Kiwi bowlers with figures of 5/34, his second consecutive fifer in ODIs.
New Zealand won the ODI series 3-0, but the third ODI was marred by a bizarre incident during the Pakistan innings.
The incident occurred in the 39th over of the innings, while Tayyab Tahir was batting, giving Pakistan a chance to win the match. The lights went out just as Jacob Duffy ran in to bowl, forcing Tahir to move out of the path. The whole stadium was left in darkness, apart from the advertisement boards.
However, the right-handed hitter found himself strolling back to the pavilion as soon as the lights came back on, after Duffy dismissed him for 33 off 31 deliveries.
