India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as they practiced for the upcoming second round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 tournament.

Rohit Sharma had informed the MCA and Mumbai team management that he would be turning up for the practice session for the Ranji Trophy.

Rohit Sharma batted with Mumbai Ranji captain Ajinkya Rahane. Rohit Sharma last played for Mumbai in 2015 against Uttar Pradesh. It remains to be seen whether Rohit will play for Mumbai versus Jammu and Kashmir.

Rohit Sharma had a dismal series in Australia, hitting 3, 9, 10, 3, and 6 runs in four Test matches, averaging 10.93, before deciding to step down as captain for the final Test against Australia in Sydney.

Following the Sydney Test, Indian national coach Gautam Gambhir stated that he would prefer everyone to play domestic cricket.

It would be intriguing to see if other prominent performers will represent their home states in the remaining Ranji Trophy round, which is set to begin on January 23.

Shubman Gill is also expected to play for Punjab against Karnataka, according to the Indian Express. Gill has had a poor tour in Australia, failing to make the most of his start. In three Test matches, his scores were 31, 28, 1, 20, and 13.
