Rohit Sharma is widely regarded as one of the best captains in the modern-day game. He has led Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL titles and also captained Team India with great success in all forms of the game.
Under his leadership, India have won two Asia Cup titles and made it to the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup last year.
However, the ultimate glory came in June of this year when he led the Men in Blue to the T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean.
Speaking at the launch event of a cricket academy in Kajarat, Rohit reflected on his feeling after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
In his typical style, the Indian skipper said 'jaan mein jaan aayi', which means he got his life back the moment India defeated South Africa by a narrow margin of seven runs in the final at Barbados on June 29.
"Our main aim was to win the World Cup. Once we won the World Cup, it felt like I got my life back once again. I am in front of you now, opening this new academy. I can guarantee that the next Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah will come out of here only," Rohit said.
With this triumph, Team India managed to end their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought. Now, the fans have set high expectations from Rohit Sharma for the upcoming global events.
In fact, the crowd at the event demanded Rohit to lead India in the ODI World Cup 2027. The event host asked the fans whom they wanted to see leading India in the next World Cup, and they happily chanted Rohit’s name.
“On the behalf of entire country, I request Rohit that we need one more WC and whom do we want to see lead India in that WC? (asks the public). Public says Rohit Rohit. Now the public wishes to see you leading India in one more World Cup. That’s all I would like to request. Thanks,” the person said in the video.
The 37-year-old Rohit has openly expressed his desire to win the ODI World Cup and it remains to be seen whether he will continue to play international cricket until the next edition of the tournament in 2027.
