The highly-anticipated Duleep Trophy, featuring some of India’ leading cricketers, got underway in Bengaluru and Anantapur on Thursday (September 5).
Performances in this domestic red-ball tournament will influence selections for the upcoming home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer are leading Team A, Team B, Team C and Team D in the competition, respectively.
In the match between Team B and Team A at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel took a spectacular catch to dismiss Easwaran.
Fast bowler Avesh Khan drew the first blood for Team A as he lured Easwaran to chase a delivery well outside his off stump. The Team B skipper failed to restrain himself and edged the ball, which Jurel caught brilliantly by diving to his right.
Jurel’s brilliance behind the stumps ended Easwaran’s 42-ball vigil at the crease as the opener walked back to the pavilion for 13.
