India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has showered rich praise on newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, revealing how the latter helps players produce their natural game.

Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in June. His stint with the Men in Blue began on a bitter-sweet note as India blanked Sri Lanka 3-0 in T20Is but lost the ODIs 0-2.

Having said that, Gambhir has a long road with stern challenges ahead as India are due to tour Australia later this year, followed by tough assignments such as the Champions Trophy and the WTC final (if they qualify).

Although it is still early days, Gautam Gambhir seems to have gelled well with the Indian players brilliantly.

“Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us, saying just go out and play freely and enjoy the game, and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying by PTI.

The southpaw also spoke highly of India skipper Rohit Sharma, stating that it’s an incredible experience to open the innings with him.

“It is an incredible experience whenever I go out and bat with him. He has shared his experiences with me. I think the way he controls the game and understands the wicket, it is spot on, and there are a lot of things (to learn from him),” Jaiswal said.

“You can learn from him things like adjusting your batting to seaming or turning tracks or changing your batting when a wicket or two fall,” he added.

The 22-year-old has taken the cricketing world by storm with his swashbuckling batting exploits in the last one year. He amassed 712 runs at an average of 89 in the five-Test series against England at home earlier this year, which made him the fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in the longest format.

“Now, I can see a lot of scenarios and shift my game accordingly for the team and read the situations. I think these are very important for me in the last one year. When I was playing domestic cricket, I was not aware of many things. But since I started playing international cricket, the communication and the reading of the game have improved a lot. I just want to keep learning,” Jaiswal remarked.
