India all-rounder Shardul Thakur recently shared his views on the better captain between MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. He also passed a cheeky remark on Rohit while answering this question at an event.

Dhoni has left a massive impact on the game with his leadership. He is the only skipper in the history of cricket to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He also led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles.

On the other hand, Rohit’s achievements as a leader are also impressive. After leading Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL titles, the opening batter got the chance to become India’s full-time captain across formats.

Under Sharma’s captaincy, India reached the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup last year and went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024 about a month ago. He is yet to lead the country in the Champions Trophy.

During an event at IISM earlier this week, Shardul was put in a tough spot as he was asked to pick one between Dhoni and Rohit.

While Shardul took the name of Dhoni, he hilarious added that Rohit would understand as the Mumbaikar is his good friend.

“Rohit is my friend first, so I would say MSD. He (Rohit) will understand even if he feels angry, I would go and butter him and say, Rohit, no problem! When this video goes to him, he will be like typical Rohit Sharma with me on the phone,” Shardul Thakur said.

Notably, both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma didn’t play the captaincy roles for their respective teams in the IPL 2024 season.

While Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain and handed over the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rohit was replaced with Hardik Pandya as skipper by the MI management.
