Rohit Sharma returned home to a huge welcome after he attended celebrations at Wankhede Stadium.

India captain Rohit Sharma was showered with adulation and love as he returned home after celebrating the T20 World Cup 2024 win with his teammates in a special ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium.

The felicitation ceremony of the Indian team saw them having an open bus parade for 1 km en route to the Wankhede stadium, which saw a sea of supporters chanting their names. in the stadium, the Indian players danced and enjoyed their hearts out and were handed an INR 125 crore cheque by the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma’s family attended the ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium and his mother Poornima, even missed her doctor's appointment to see her son celebrate the World Cup victory in front of a packed stadium with more than 30,000 chanting his name.

Later when Rohit Sharma went to the president’s box at the Wankhede Stadium to meet his mother, he was showered with kisses by her.

Speaking to Indian Express, Poornima revealed that Rohit had already planned on quitting the T20I format before heading for the World Cup.

I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day.

I can’t express my happiness. Look at the cheering. I have never experienced this kind of atmosphere. The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. I’m the happiest mother today. What more can I ask now! This day won’t come again in life. As he was taking the lap of honor, it was an emotional moment as he has been playing for a day like this,” she told Indian Express.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma received a special welcome from his childhood friends and family members, as he returned to his home on Thursday. Rohit's MI teammates Tilak Varma was also present for the occasion.

Rohit, who resides in Ahuja Towers in Worli, was welcomed by friends and family members who saluted him and then hoisted him up in celebration and even put a garland on the Indian captain.
