Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan cricketer, laughed about his batting during an ICC event on Tuesday, June 11.
Notably, Afridi was a special guest, along with famous Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, at a UNICEF event hosted in partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to improve the lives of poor children.
At the commencement of his address, the former Pakistan skipper made a humorous joke saying that he won’t take long like his batting during his playing days. Notably, during his career, Afridi was recognized for his aggressive style of play as he loved to play quick-fire knocks for his team.
Speaking ahead in his speech, Afridi vowed to support underprivileged children across the globe in areas of education, healthcare, sports, and clean drinking water. He also supported the ICC and UNICEF’s mission to bring more children into cricket.
“Very good evening. I am not going to take long like my batting. I am Shahid Afridi. I was blessed to play international cricket for Pakistan for more than two decades. I believe living a selfless life brings more joy and with more blessing comes more responsibility. I choose a life to support underprivileged people across the globe through my foundation in areas of education, healthcare, sports, and clean drinking water. I support ICC and UNICEF in their mission together so more children can be part of this second-most-watched sport in the world. I am honored to be part of this event and look forward to the rest of this evening. Thank you so much,” said Afridi in a video uploaded on his Instagram account.
Afridi boasted a strike rate of 86, 117, and 150 in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is respectively in his international career.
