Justin Langer, who is currently the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2024, recounted the insane story about him kicking the dustbin during the infamous Headingley Test of 2019 Ashes between England and Australia.

During a media interaction with fans, a youngster asked Langer about the dustbin story and the former Australia head coach enthralled a young crowd by telling the whole story and the aftermath. The moment Langer kicked the dustbin was captured in Amazon’s documentary 'The Test'.

England had won the Test by 1 wicket thanks to an amazing unbeaten century by Ben Stokes and his famous last wicket partnership with Jack Leach.

Langer said: “Remember when I kicked the rubbish bin? Ben Stokes was batting with Jack Leach and we had four runs to win. Ben Stokes is a hundred and something. Four runs to win the Ashes which for us is like you beating Pakistan. The ball gets thrown by Pat Cummins to Nathan Lyon and he dropped that ball and guess what? potentially drop, let me drop the test match.

So, I looked and I went bang and I kicked the rubbish bin. But what did I do next? Does anyone know? I knew that scene before it came out and I said to the producer, whatever you do, you cannot put that in the documentary because people like you and him and him will think I'm crazy, right? But he said, yeah, but what did you do next?

I said, what do you mean what did I do next? He said, well, watch it again. And you should watch it again tonight. Because after I kicked the bin, I realized in that one second, I got angry. So, I picked up all the rubbish. I picked up all the rubbish. And what the producer said was, one of your values, you guys have got your three values, one of your values is humility. So, when you make a mistake, you make it up.”
