Ace India pacer Mohammad Shami talked about his teammate Virat Kohli’s antics on the field, and took a dig at his excessive celebrations at the fall of wicket. Kohli is known for being expressive of his emotions on the field and his over-enthusiastic celebrations are highlights on their own.
Shami, who recently finished the ICC World Cup 2023 as the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps including the best of 7/57, said that Kohli celebrates more than any bowler after a wicket, and he enjoys doing that.
“Virat Kohli ko aap dekh lo, bina wicket ke bowler se zyada celebration kar jaata hai. Main usko bolta hoon kabhi ki acha hua tu bowler nahi tha. Usko maja aata hai. Actually mein kya hai vo uska style hai khelne ka. Uske nature mein vo set ho gaya hai vo cheej. Vo khud ko rokna bhi chahe, nahi rok payega. Khud sharma jaata hai vo. Baad me usse pucho na ki aisa kyu hua. Ek din maine usko picture bheja, maine kaha ye kya tha? Wicket se itna uncha tha upar jump maar ke. Maine kaha ye kya tha? Wicket to mera tha. Kehta chodo, bhul jaao.
(Virat Kohli celebrates more than any bowler after a wicket. I tell him at times that it’s good that you aren’t a bowler. He enjoys himself while doing so. That’s his style of play. It’s in his nature. He can’t stop himself, even if he wants to. Once, I showed him a picture and asked, What is this? He jumped more than the height of the stumps, and I said, It’s my wicket, brother. He said, leave, forget it (laughs),” Shami explained during the interview with News18.
