Former England captain and commentator Michael Vaughan has given crucial advice to struggling batter Joe Root for the remaining three matches of the ongoing Test series in India.

Root faced criticism for his aggressive shot selection in the Vizag Test, where he got out early in the second inning while trying to hit a boundary off R. Ashwin's delivery.

Vaughan suggests that Root should focus on playing sensibly according to the game's situation instead of being too aggressive and looking to follow the 'bazball' approach. Vaughan wants Root to bat more like his usual self and avoid being overly aggressive, as he could manage only 52 runs in the first two Tests against Team India so far.

Michael Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph: “The batsmen look like they only have one way to play. They are in fifth gear from ball one. I don’t mind some of them playing like that because they are better at it. But Joe Root should forget it. He has 10,000 Test runs playing like Joe Root. He doesn’t need to be a Bazballer.”

Vaughan also admitted that Root is one of the great batters of spin and he just need to play with his own style to make runs in India, since he doesn’t need any ‘Bzaball’ approach.

He further explained, “It is time for someone in the management to put an arm around Joe and say, 'Please just be yourself. This is particularly important against spin. Along with Graham Gooch, Root is the best player of spin England has ever produced.”

Vaughan signed off by saying, “To see him bat the way he did in the second innings, that’s not Root, and it’s not the way England are going to win in India, just gifting wickets away.”

Notably, the third Test between India and England will be beginning on February 15 in Rajkot.
