In what has been hailed as one of the greatest catches by a wicketkeeper and overall as well, Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama left fans and experts jaw dropped as he took an amazing catch behind the stumps in an ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and chose to bowl first at SSC Colombo in Sri Lanka. Asitha Fernando dismissed Ibrahim Zadran for a duck on the second ball of the match.

But then Noor Ali Zadran (31) and Rahmat Shah (91) played cautiously and added good runs. Rahmat also shared a solid 50-plus stand with his captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (17) exuding confidence at the crease.  

Then Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper Sadeera Samarawickrama captivated fans with what is being regarded as one of the greatest catches of all time. The catch happened when Rahmat Shah decided to paddle sweep Prabath Jayasuriya.

Showing razor-sharp instincts and exceptional agility, Sadeera anticipated the shot early. As Rahmat went down for the sweep, Samarawickrama started to move down the leg side to cover the shot.

Samarawickrama, with an extraordinary display of glovework, snatched the ball out of the air with his left glove near his shin.

To ensure the ball didn’t spill out, the keeper clasped it with both hands, completing the sensational catch.
