MI Cape Town captain Kieron Pollard came under severe criticism after the latest SA20 2024 match against JoBurg Suepr Kings. The incident occurred during JSK’s batting effort in the second innings on January 28 in a rain-curtailed game.
Chasing 98 runs from 8 overs after the match was cut short, JSK captain Faf du Plessis and opener Leus du Plooy were batting aggressively. Realizing that the match might be over soon, Pollard decided to waste some time with rain around.
In the 4th over of the match, when JSK had already scored 57 runs, Pollard instructed fast bowler Kagiso Rabada to take his run-up and pull out of the bowling action in the final minute. Faf du Plessis, who was on the strike, was furious at Rabada doing the same. He slammed the MI team and complained to the umpire.
Pollard wanted to delay the game until the rain came down once again and he shrewdly knew that since the JSK team had not batted the mandatory minimum of 5 overs to constitute a match. And if the rain comes down before the 5 overs are finished, the game would not be counted and would be called a no-result.

However, this tactic of Kieron Pollard was also slammed by the fans on social media. Notably, Pollard was asked to captain the MICT team after Rashid Khan pulled out of SA20 2024 as he recovered from a back surgery.
