Australia opener Usman Khawaja suffered a painful blow to his chin in the second innings of his team in the first Test against West Indies was played at Adelaide. Australia successfully chased down the meager 26-run target to win the 1st Test by 10 wickets.
However, Khawaja had to retire hurt on 9 runs after he copped a blow to his chin off the bowling of Shamar Joseph. The 37-year-old spat blood and was feeling his jaw before leaving the ground.
Khawaja passed the initial concussion tests but had to go for further medical examination and will be checked again on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia gave an update on his condition, mentioning that Khawaja was cleared of any fracture but will continue to be monitored.

“UPDATE: Usman Khawaja has been cleared of a fractured jaw but continues to be monitored for concussion symptoms,” CA posted.
”He seemed okay, just a little bit of a sore jaw. We’ll monitor it, but he seemed okay,” Australia captain Pat Cummins said post match.
The second and final test, a day-night affair in Brisbane, begins on Thursday.
On the other hand, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite said: “Unfortunate, he bit his tongue as well. Let’s hope he’s okay, no one wants to see a guy get injured playing this game that we love.”
Matthew Renshaw is likely to replace him in Brisbane should Khawaja miss out.
Usman Khawaja also posted an update on Instagram thanking every one for concern.
