The Sydney Thunder are clashing with the Sydney Sixers in the Sydney smash of the ongoing BBL 13 tournament on January 12, 2024. This match also features Steve Smith of the Sixers going against David Warner of the Thunder.
Smith was this week confirmed as the Test opening replacement for the retired Warner. A mic’d up Warner was in the field first for the Sydney Thunder and was all smiles before play with the Sixers’ Smith, who was tasked with facing the first ball.
Warner was heard taking a funny jibe at Smith, who was involved in an Australian Open exhibition with Novak Djokovic on Thursday night.

“He’s got his tennis swing on I reckon. Him and Novak Djokovic are mates now, so we might see a bit of topspin,” Warner said.
“Nothing distracts him ever. No that’s not centre. To the right. Mate, if you open the batting you have got to mark it properly. One go only,” Warner sledged Smith as he marked guard.
However, Steve Smith seemingly got sidetracked by Warner’s banter as he was out on the first ball bowled by Daniel Sams.
Trying to hoick the short-pitched ball by Sams towards mid-wicket, Smith only managed to hit the ball high in the air. He was caught easily by Nathan McAndrew for a golden duck.
