WATCH- “Rohit Sharma was the 1st or 2nd person to call me”- Sanju Samson on receiving support from India captain

Samson also spoke about being called the most unluckiest cricketer in India.

Sanju Samson | XIndia keeper-batter Sanju Samson opened up about his bonding with India captain Rohit Sharma, saying that he has received great support and encouragement from the senior cricketer. Samson was not considered for the Men in Blue World Cup 2023 squad and was also ignored for the ongoing T20I series against Australia.

Sanju last played for India in a three-match T20I series against Ireland in August, under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah, although he failed to impress. He was later selected as a reserve wicketkeeper-batter for KL Rahul in the Asia Cup 2023, but he did not participate, and he has not played for India since.

Despite not being selected by the Indian squad for major tournaments under Rohit's captaincy in recent years, Samson has disclosed that he has continuously got Rohit's backing.

"Any selector will be tempted"- Ashish Nehra speaks on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's T20I future

Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me and talked. He told me, ‘Hey Sanju, wassup. You performed well in the IPL but hit too many sixes against the Mumbai Indians. You bat really well’. I had great support from him,” Samson said on a YouTube channel.

Many think that despite all the talent that Sanju Samson possesses, he hasn’t gotten a continuous run with the Indian team to showcase his wares and hence is called on the of the unluckiest cricketers in the country. But the 28-year-old Kerala batter, thinks otherwise.

“People call me the unlikeliest cricketer, but where I’ve reached currently, it’s much more than what I thought I could,” he added.

Sanju made his debut for India in 2015, but since then has only managed to play in 13 ODIs and 24 ODIs, in which he has scored 390 and 374 runs, respectively.
