Indian cricket fraternity reacts as India women defeat Sri Lanka in final to win Gold in Asian Games

This is India women's first gold medal in cricket event in Asian Games.

Harmanpreet Kaur returned in this match to lead India after completing her two-match suspension and won the toss. She chose to bat first on a difficult pitch.

Sri Lanka bowlers dominated the proceedings as only Smriti Mandhana (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (42) reached double-figures as India posted 116/7 in 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Udeshika Prabodhini, Sugandika Kumari and Inoka Ranaweera took two wickets each.

In response, Sri Lanka also lost wickets at the start, but Hasini Perera (25), Nilakshi de Silva (23), and Oshadi Ranasinghe (19) tried their best to keep the Sri Lankan side in the chase. But Indian bowlers on this pitch proved to be too much for them as they managed 97/8 in 20 overs.

Titas Sadhu took 3/6, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad took 2 wickets, as India won by 19 runs. With this win, India also won the gold medal in the women’s cricket event at the Asian Games. 

The Indian cricket fraternity on social media couldn’t help but share their joy and lauded the Women in Blue wholeheartedly.
