The final match turned out to be a one-sided affair as GAW bundled out TKR for a paltry 94 in 18.1 overs. It was a listless batting display from the Knight Riders as no one managed to touch the 40-run mark. Keacy Carty was the top scorer with 38 off 45 balls.

For Guyana, fast bowler Dwaine Pretorius starred with the ball as he returned with four scalps (4-26) while the spin duo of Gudakesh Motie (2-7) and Imran Tahir (2-8) picked up two wickets each.

In reply, opener Saim Ayub slammed an unbeaten half-century (52* off 41) while Shai Hope scored run-a-ball 32* to take GAW over the finishing line with six overs to spare.

Speaking after the title win, Guyana skipper Imran Tahir thanked veteran India off-spinner R Ashwin for showing unwavering belief in his leadership abilities.

"Many thanks to Ravi Ashwin. Before the start of the season, he told me that I could do it and win the CPL. Many people made jokes when I was made captain," Tahir said at the post-match presentation.

“This is one of the great achievements I have had in my life. Want to congratulate all the players who did well, the youngsters. I really don't know what to say, just want to say thank you to everyone for supporting us,” he added.

Tahir, the former South African leg-spinner, was glad to have led Guyana Amazon Warriors to their maiden CPL title win.

“I am happy that I am the first captain to achieve this for Guyana. We were more hungry than ever before. Team belief was there. I told the team we have been the best team in the competition and if we play the way we have played to our potential we will win. Since I arrived it was my dream (to win the title. Pauses for a moment as he gets emotional). I'm grateful for this support. Love you all,” he concluded.
