WATCH- Cheteshwar Pujara’s ton for Sussex goes in vain in loss to Northamptonshire; Prithvi Shaw chops on

Shaw made 27 runs before getting out in Northants' chase vs Sussex.

Northamptonshire vs Sussex | TwitterIt was a day when Indian stars faced off in the ongoing One-Day Cup in UK as Cheteshwar Pujara’s Sussex clashed with Northamptonshire featuring Prithvi Shaw at the County Ground in Northampton.

Sussex captain Tom Haines won the toss and chose to bat first and the innings was held together by Cheteshwar Pujara who hammered 106* in 119 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. None of the other batters crossed 30 runs with James Coles with 29 being the next best scorer.

Thanks to Pujara’s brilliant ton, Sussex posted 240/7 in 45 overs. It was a brilliant knock by Pujara, who has only appeared in 5 ODIs for India, scoring 51 runs in total and never made his T20I debut.

But the Saurashtra batter has 5383 runs in a total of 119 List A matches at an average of 57.26 with 15 centuries and 32 half centuries. He has also scored 1556 runs in 71 T20 matches with a strike rate of 112.18 and even has a century in the format.

Unfortunately, this innings was not enough for his team as Northamptonshire chased the total down with 8 balls to spare and 3 wickets in hand. Tom Taylor (42*) Lewis McManus (36) and Ricardo Vasconcelos (37) were the main run-getters in the chase.

Northants received a quick start from India’s Prithvi Shaw who made 26 in 17 balls with 4 fours, before he chopped onto his stumps on the bowling of Brad Currie. Currie had bowled an innocuous delivery outside off-stump and Shaw in an attempt to drive it on the up, only managed to inside edge it onto his pegs.

Here is his wicket:
