Ashes 2023: WATCH- Marnus Labuschagne cheekily teases Jonny Bairstow; mocks leaving the crease

England posted 283 in the 1st innings of Oval Test.

Jonny Bairstow and Marnus Labuschagne | TwitterAustralian batter Marnus Labuschagne teased Jonny Bairstow when the latter tried to stump him out on day-1 of the fifth Ashes 2023 Test at the Oval on Thursday.

This was in jest on back of some serious debate over Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal in the second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord’s when he was stumped out by Alex Carey.

Bairstow, who along with skipper Ben Stokes was about to forge a partnership ducked a slow bouncer from Cameron Green and ventured out of the crease thinking that the ball was already ‘dead’.

But Carey was vigilant and threw the ball at the stumps and hit the pegs, with Bairstow out of his crease. Carey played within the rules and broke the stumps and third umpire Marais Erasmus adjudged it stumped in favour of Australia.

A dazed Bairstow walked back, but England captain Ben Stokes and several former cricketers slammed Australians and accused them of going against the spirit of cricket.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Oval Test, Labuschagne had let a delivery, the last of the day, go by to the keeper and Bairstow took aim at the stumps, waiting for Marnus to leave the crease. But the cheeky batter mocked doing so, while staring at the England keeper before the umpire called over.
