WATCH- MS Dhoni felicitated by MCA as Wankhede set have a 2011 World Cup win memorial

A memorial will be built where the ball landed after Dhoni hit Kulasekara for a six in the stands.

MS Dhoni gets felicitated by the MCA | InstagramIndia’s 2011 World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni was felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials on April 7, 2023, as his IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) prepares to face Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 8.

Indian team defeated the Sri Lankans in the final on April 2nd, 2011 which was played at the Wankhede Stadium and MS Dhoni played a captain’s knock of 91* and hit a six off Nuwan Kulasekara to finish off the match.

He also had a hundred-plus partnership with opener Gautam Gambhir, who made 97, as India had lost Sachin Tendulkar (18) and Virender Sehwag (0) early in the chase of 275-run target.

Keeping it in view, the site at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium where MS Dhoni's match-winning six landed will be used to build the 2011 World Cup victory memorial. It is being reported that 5 chairs of the pavilion stand in the stadium will be removed to make the victory memorial.

Dhoni, who was also the captain of India when the side won the trophy, was felicitated at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday before the memorial is built.  He was gifted a huge photograph of the winning moment and also a memento by MCA officials.
