Lahore Qalandars emerged as the winner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 with a thrilling one-run win over Multan Sultans in the final last Saturday (March 18).
With this triumph, the Shaheen Afridi-led side also became the first team to win back-to-back PSL titles.
After the win, Lahore Qalandars pacer Haris Rauf took the PSL trophy to Wagah Border. He also clicked selfies with fans and security forces present there.
Here’s the video:
Coming to the PSL 2023 final, Qalandars piled up 200/6 on the board after opting to bat first. Abdullah Shafique top scored with 40-ball 65 while skipper Shaheen Afridi played a dazzling knock of 44 in just 15 balls.
In reply, Multan Sultans raced to 101/1 in 10 overs with Rilee Rossouw (52) and Mohammad Rizwan (34) adding 64 for the second wicket. Rashid broke the partnership by removing Rossouw and the latter’s dismissal triggered a collapse.
In his second spell, Shaheen got rid of Kieron Pollard (19), Tim David (20), Anwar Ali (1) and Usama Mir (0) in quick succession.
With 35 needed in the last two overs, Khushdil Shah and Abbas Afridi smashed Haris Rauf for 22 runs in the penultimate over but failed to get 13 in the last. Khushdil tried to take a third run to force a super over but Shaheen ran him out on the last delivery to ensure Lahore’s title-clinching victory.
