Australian batter Steve Smith yet again grabbed the eyeballs for his baggy green after the end of day two’s play of the ongoing second Test against South Africa at the MCG on Tuesday (December 27).
Smith sparked outrage on social media two weeks ago when he was slammed for disrespecting Australian cricket by wearing a tattered baggy green, and the batter later blamed the rates in Galle for the poor condition of his baggy green.
Well, after a lot of criticism, Smith got a fresh baggy green cap, but he is not satisfied with it, as he wants his old baggy green cap back.
When the former Australian skipper was asked whether he will get his old rodent-eaten cap back or has to stick with the new one, Smith said that the new one makes him look ‘train driver’, so he wants his old one back.
Steve Smith told ABC SPORT: “No I’d like it to get it back. It hasn’t gone off yet, but I’ve been talking to the manager. Hopefully they can send it off and get it fixed because it’s got lot of sentimental value. I really like the old one, looks like… I look like a train driver with this one.”
He also spoke about David Warner’s double ton in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the MCG.
Smith said: “He’s been a quality player for a long time. You don’t score 25 hundreds opening the batting for Australia if you’re not any good. So, you know, he’s been batting really well. I think he said before this game he was coming in a good headspace.”
He signed off by saying, “He loves batting here at the MCG, and yeah he looked on from ball one yesterday. He played exceptionally well. Overnight he was 30-odd not out playing really nicely and just came out and continued on from where he is left off.”
