India and South Africa U19 women’s T20I series got underway at the Tuks Oval, Pretoria, and saw the visitors registering a comfortable win in the first T20I of the five-match series.
India batted first and posted 137/5 in 20 overs with Shweta Sehrawat 40 (39) and Soumya Tiwari 40 (46) top-scoring for India U19.
In reply, South Africa was restricted to 83/8 in 20 overs with Kayla Reyneke making 20. For India Shabnam MD picked 3/5 and Archana Devi took 3/14 as India won comfortably by 54 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.
In the 17th over of the South Africa U19 innings bowled by Mannat Kashyap, non-striker J Evans was caught wandering out of the crease. Kashyap was attentive enough and before completing her bowling, she whipped off the bails and appealed to the umpire.
The batter looked a bit dejected, but the umpire gave her out and she walked back to the pavilion for 4 runs. However, reports suggested that India took back their appeal and called the batter back.
