Australia started off the three-match ODI series against double world champions England on a good note with a 6-wicket win at Adelaide on Thursday (November 17).

Australia's new ODI captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first as Dawid Malan's terrific 134 helped England to set a competitive target of 288 after being 118/5 at one stage. Cummins and Adam Zampa took three wickets each.

Australian openers David Warner (86) and Travis Head (69) gave the team a great start of 147 in 19.4 overs to all but break the back of England's hopes. Steve Smith (80*) took Australia past the line with 19 balls to spare and six wickets in hand.

Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 20 off 28 balls, played few aggressive shots and was teased by England captain and wicket-keeper Jos Buttler during the 41st over of the innings, as he chirped to the bowler Liam Dawson, 'chasing the ink, big auction coming up' referring to the IPL 2023 player auction next month.

Green, is expected to put his name in the auction, and is set to fetch big interest from multiple franchises who would be looking for a seam bowling all-rounder in their roster.

Though Green is yet to confirm his participation but it won't be a major surprise if he bags the biggest deal as he showed his ability to bat up the order during Australia's recent T20I tour of India with Warner rested, and can also finish an innings with some meaty blows. His brisk medium pace bowling makes him a complete package.

The player auction is set to be held on December 23.
