“This is a D. Dhenier statue” - MS Dhoni’s wax statue in Mysore unveiled; social media flooded with memes

In recognition of MS Dhoni's tremendous contributions to Indian sport and his services to the nation, a statue of him was unveiled in a wax museum in Mysore. A fan's photo of Dhoni's statue went viral on social media on Friday, October 7.

The former India captain's statue did not appear to impress cricket fans, which sparked some humorous Twitter reactions.

While many remarked that the statue reminded them of D Dhenier, some made fun of the statue's sculptors. For those who are unaware, Dhenier was the name given to Dhoni in the well-known computer game "EA Cricket 07."

On August 15, 2020, MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. He retired having amassed over 17000 international runs across all formats, ranking him among the highest run-getters of all time for India.

He is also the first captain to have won the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and the Champions Trophy.

The 41-year-old is still involved with the IPL despite having retired from international cricket. In the 16th edition of the Indian tournament, the ‘Captain Cool’ will return as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
