Rahane made his India debut in 2011 and Test debut in 2013. He has captained India multiple times in Tests and was vice-captain to Virat Kohli during his captaincy tenure.

Rahane’s biggest accomplishment came when he captained India to a 2-1 Test series win in Australia in 2020-21. After India was bundled out for 36 in Adelaide Test, Rahane stepped in as the stand-in skipper in absence of Virat Kohli and managed to rally the team around to lead a remarkable fightback.
