Veteran England pacer Stuart Broad has come in for some heavy criticism on social media after he criticized Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) decision to remove run-out at non-striker's end from unfair play laws.
Broad referred to the mode of dismissal as Mankad once again and said it requires "zero skill" to dismiss a batter at the non-striker's end.
His comments incensed fans even more after Sachin Tendulkar had thanked the MCC for their ruling saying that this mode of dismissal being called ‘Mankading’ was something that he was always averse to the term, which is named after legendary India all-rounder Vinoo Mankad.
The MCC on Wednesday decided to move the law relating to run-outs at the non-striker's end from its "unfair play" section. It relates to run-outs at the non-striker's end when batters back up too far.
This mode of dismissal had divided the cricketing world with many supporting it and others calling ti unfair to the batter at the non-striker’s end.
This debate heated up more after England’s Jos Buttler was run out by R Ashwin in a match of IPL 2019 after he tried to leave his crease before the bowler had delivered the ball.
"So the Mankad is no longer unfair & is now a legitimate dismissal. Hasn't it always been a legitimate dismissal & whether it is unfair is subjective? I think it is unfair & wouldn't consider it, as IMO, dismissing a batter is about skill & the Mankad requires zero skill," Broad tweeted.
However, many fans on Twitter were not happy with Broad still using the term mankading and calling the mode of dismissal unfair. Many even reminded him when he refused to walk despite edging a delivery to the slips in an Ashes Test match.
