Dale Steyn had to clarify after posting a late congratulatory tweet for Nathan Lyon.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon completed 400 Test dismissals on Saturday (December 11) while contributing to Australia's victory over England in the first Ashes Test. It took Lyon 326 days to pick his 400th Test wicket after he had picked his 399th on January 19 this year.

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn congratulated the Aussie spinner for the milestone through a tweet. Lyon reached the milestone by dismissing Dawid Malan in the 74th over of England's second innings in the match.

But Steyn was dragged into a 'silly banter' on Twitter for a late tweet and the South African had to clarify that he was dealing with a personal issue.

"Yes I apologize as my grandfather passed away and I was with him and my family during that time," wrote Steyn on Twitter while responding to a troll.

In another tweet, the 38-year-old sarcastically added that he will put cricket over his family next time, "Some silly banter going around as I’m a little late in congratulating Nathan for his 400th poll. My apologies, I’ll be sure to put my family tragedies aside next time as cricket is clearly more important."
