The whole of the nation is celebrating the holy occasion of Dussehra or Vijayadashami, today on October 15, 2021.
Dussehra is a major Hindu festival celebrated all over the world and is observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashwin. It is celebrated for different reasons all over the Indian subcontinent.
In the southern, eastern, and northeastern states of India, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura.
In North India, it is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Ram over the demon emperor Raavan. It is celebrated by burning the towering effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhkarna and son Meghnaad, symbolizing that evil is burnt with fireworks marking the destruction of all things bad.
Dussehra also marks the beginning of the preparation of the biggest Hindu festival of Diwali.
The Indian cricket fraternity also celebrated the holy occasion and sent wishes to the nation on Twitter.
