Guyana Amazon Warriors pacer Odean Smith broke Chris Gayle's bat with his fast delivery during the second semi-final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 against St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Gayle was forced to call for a new bat after the delivery left him with no other choice.
Gayle cleared his front leg and tried to go for a big shot on the offside in the fourth over of their innings. But as soon as the southpaw made contact with the ball, he only had the bat's handle in his hand.
Imran Tahir went to Gayle and had a chat while he was getting a new bat from his teammate. The official Twitter account of CPL shared the video and wrote, "Batting malFUNction for @henrygayle."
Gayle played a crucial knock of 42 runs to give Patriots a good start to their chase of 179 runs. He stitched up a partnership of 76 runs with his opening partner Evin Lewis, who also won Man of the Match for his unbeaten 77 runs.
Eventually, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots beat Guyana Amazon Warriors by seven wickets as they chased down the target in 17.5 overs. They have reached the final where they will face St Lucia Kings.
