On this day, a couple of years back, Australia's batsman Steve Smith made a comeback to Test cricket after getting banned for a year. He was suspended by Cricket Australia after the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.
It was the first Test against England in the Ashes 2019 when Smith announced his return. He played one of his best Ashes knocks and smashed a century which helped Australia recover from 128/8 to post a total of 284 in the first innings at Edgbaston.

On Sunday (August 1), Smith took to Twitter to reminisce his memorable knock in England. "On this day 2 years ago I scored my favorite Test 100. So many emotions came out in this moment and I’ll always cherish it," he wrote.
Smith, who scored 144 runs, added an 88-run partnership with Peter Siddle for the ninth wicket to take Australia to a respectable total. He continued the form in the second innings and scored another hundred (142 runs).
Eventually, Australia won the match by 251 runs. Smith had scored 774 runs in the series which ended up 2-2 as Australia retained the Ashes urn and he was also named as Player of the Series.
