England faced a defeat in the Euro 2020 final to Italy at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday (July 11). They lost the match in a penalty shootout by 3-2 and their wait for the title has been prolonged.

New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and ex-cricketer Scott Styris took a subtle dig at England's loss by connecting the tie in the match with their 2019 World Cup final defeat. Neesham jokingly wrote why is it a penalty shootout and not the count of most passes for the outcome?

The Kiwi cricketer was referring to their defeat in the 2019 World Cup final on the basis of boundary count. "Why is it a penalty shootout and not just whoever made the most passes wins? ???? #joking ????," Neesham tweeted.

Styris added the hashtag 'still salty' in his tweet, suggesting that he hasn't moved on from the World Cup final loss. "I don't understand.... England had more corners .... they are the champions! #Stillsalty," his tweet read after the Euro 2020 final.

Italy won their 2nd European Championship title, ending a 53-year-long wait for continental glory. They also extended their winning run to a record-stretching 34 games, finishing the Euro 2020 campaign without a defeat.
